Furci fourth, Suffolk second at state golf tournament

Suffolk had five golfers place in the top 10 and finished second for the team title on the final day of the State boys golf championships Monday at Cornell University's Robert Trent Jones course in Ithaca.

Sayville's Mike Furci, the county champion, shot 2-over-par 74 to finish fourth at the two-day tournament with a score of '. Half Hollow Hills East's Brandon Meltzer played in the final pairing and shot 4-over 78 to also finish at ', but was fifth by the tiebreaker rule. Brian Hwang of Hauppauge was sixth, Jordan Meltzer of Half Hollow Hills East was seventh and Robert Pepi of Whitman was eighth. All three shot 149. The top 10 finishers are medalists and the top 20 earn all-state honors.

Dominic Bozzelli of McQuaid Jesuit (Rochester) won in a one-hole playoff with a score of 142 and helped Section V win the team title with 1,052. Suffolk had 1,066. Nassau placed sixth at 1,120 and had Michael Cheng of Syosset place 15th with 152 and Adam Larkin of Mepham finish 21st with 154
